FREE BRATISLAVA 21. – 24.4.

Free of charge museums, galleries, palaces, tour guides and sport halls. Various markets, festivals, concerts and performances held. No entrance fee to ZOO, getting to the underground of chosen chapels, having free rides on our historical vehicles – this is just a pinch of what is prepared for all Bratislava visitors this weekend 21st – 24th April! Check the whole program and enjoy getting to know our city! :)

#1 PROGRAM (NOT ONLY) FOR KIDS

HLAVNE NAMESTIE

10:00 – 17:00 Hlavne namestie (Main square) will be on Saturday full of kids from elementary schools who will be presenting their works, participate in creative workshops and showcase some of their projects.

HVIEZDOSLAV’S SQUARE

10:00 – 17:00 There will be a bus full of art works at the Hviezdoslav’s square on Saturday.

PRIMATE’S SQUARE

Saturday, 10:00 – 17:00
Have you ever wondered what it is like to sit in a garbage truck? Well you’ll have a chance to try it out on Saturday! You will also be able to learn how this truck works and get instructions on how to separate waste. Some good fun for the kids!

CITY THEATER OF P.O.HVIEZDOSLAV

Saturday 14:30, Laurinska str. 19
A play for kids called „Three piglets“ will be performed here. Free entrance but you need to collect your ticket (2 pieces per person max) at the box office of the theater (MDPOH)  between 11:00 – 15:00.

DRIVING THE HISTORICAL TRAM

On both Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 – 17:00, you can have a ride in our historical tram. Circular route: Vazovova, Špitálska, Námestie SNP, Kapucínska, tunel, Nábr. arm. gen. Svobodu, Rázusovo nábr., Mostová, Jesenského, Špitálska, Americké nám., Radlinského, Vazovova. You can get on each of the mentioned stops.

DRIVING THE HISTORICAL CAR PRESPORACIK

On both Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 – 16:00, you can get on our historical car called Presporacik, at 2 places: at the E. Suchoň s square (in front of the Slovak National Theater) or in front of the gate of the Bratislava castle.

HORSE RACING AFTERNOON

Sunday, 14:00 – 18:00, location: Starohájska 29, Petržalka – Starý háj
Besides the 8 horse races, children will be able to have a ride on ponies and parents can try attractive betting on horse races with the payment immediately after the finish.

FORESTRY DAYS

10:00 – 16:00 in Partizanska Luka (Zelezna studienka)
Forestry days are the largest nationwide event organized by the forestry companies in Slovakia. Special educators will introduce the forest to kids and their parents through games and contests for interesting prizes. These engaging activities are designed to help environment and teach children how to protect it. The kids will be able to have a ride on a boat, jump in a bouncy castle or on a trampoline.
16:00 Lighting the bonfire. Closing the ceremony program. Evaluation of the competition by distributing the prizes to winners.
10:00 – 17:00 on Kamzik – free cable center at Koliba.

ZOO

Both on Saturday and Sunday, 09:00 – 18:00, free entry! Plus, a small tiger baby will be baptized publicly.

On both Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy these sports for free:

Ice rink in Dubravka, Harmincova 2, 10:00 – 17:00
Ice rink of O. Nepela, Odbojarov 8, 10:00 – 12:00, 14:00 – 16:00

Badminton courts:
Sport hall STaRZ, Harmincova 2, 10:00 – 20:00

Basketball, petanque and children playgrounds:
Multi-purpose area, Harmincova 2, 08:00 – 20:00

Swimming pool & gym (25 and 50 m pools), Pasielnky, Junacka 6,
25 m pool available from 08:00 – 20:00 on both days
50 m pool and gym available from 11:00 – 19:00 on Saturday and from 08:00 – 20:00 on Sunday.

#3 OPEN MARKETS

MUSEUM OF CITY HISTORY

At the Courtyard of the Town Hall there will be a crafts market on Friday.

OLD MARKET (STARA TRZNICA)

Saturday 10:00 – 15:00, SNP square – regular food market.
On Sunday, a colorful mosaic of people of different cultures and nationalities that moved to Bratislava will be presented here. This event is part of the currently held [fjuzn] festival.

“GOOD MARKET”

Saturday 10:00 – 17:00, Jakubovo square
A food market where you can buy products from local producers, enjoy concerts, theater performances and films screenings, discussions, workshops and various activities for children.

#4 FOR BOOK LOVERS

THE CITY LIBRARY

book market on Klariská street 16 – the market is on from 21st to 27th April. It is open on weekdays 08:00 – 19:00, on weekends 10:00 – 18:00.

THE OLD TOWN LIBRARY (Staromestska kniznica)

During this weekend you can come and get a free annual registration in all the offices of this library. Come during open hours. List of the offices.

#5 CULTURE FANS

SLOVAKIA CANTAT 2016

The 10th international festival of children, youth and adult choirs in Bratislava – with an opening concert at 7 pm on Thursday in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer at the Frantiskanske square. There will be various shows from 21st till 24th April, all with free entrance. The whole program is available here.

PRIMATE’S PALACE

Come to admire the exhibition which presents the beginning of the reign of Maria Theresa, in particular her coronation in Bratislava on June 25th, 1741. The exhibition starts on Friday 22nd April and will be on till 10th May. Representative premises with the gallery and unique tapestry will be open on both Saturday and Sunday 10:00 – 17:00. On Saturday 10:00 – 18:00, the mayor’s office will be made public, and you can meet him, his deputy and members of the City Council personally. During Saturday, you can also have a look at theexhibition and demonstrations of handicrafts prepared by seniors from Bratislava districts. From 4pm there will be a 30 min fanfare concert on the balcony of the Primate’s palace on Saturday, too.

MUSEUM OF CITY HISTORY

9:00 a scientific conference on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Tivadar Ortvay’s death (a historical persona) will be held in the Faust Hall, Old Town Hall, the Museum of City History at 9 am on Thursday.

MICHAEL’S GATE

On Saturday at 10am there will be a symbolic opening of the city gates and official opening of the tourist season.

On Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 – 18:00, you will have free entry to the following museums:

CHAPEL OF ST. JACOB, SNP square

Both on Saturday and Sunday, 14:00 – 18:00. Visiting the underground accompanied by personnel from the Urban Conservation Institute.

WATERWORKS MUSEUM

Saturday 10:00 – 18:00, Sunday 10:00 – 14:00 – Tour of the Sihoť island with expert commentary + exhibition of the Waterworks museum and its garden that has been declared as the most beautiful Park of 2015 (it will be open till 22:00).

Along this special weekend, from Thursday 21st April, you can also enjoy the [fjuzn] festival – the biggest festival of minorities that will last till 28th April.
