You already might know that Slovaks call their St Nicolaus Mikuláš who comes and rewards children each year at night from 5th to 6th December. So don’t be surprised if you receive small treats from your colleagues at work during this day. This year, the celebration happens to be on the weekend night and therefore there is plenty of events going on in the city this week and weekend especially. Besides the traditional Christmas markets and Christmas days in Incheba which last all December until the Christmas Day, there are several events organized to keep you busy and in the right Christmas mood – check them out here!
NA SVATEHO MIKULASA
The event’s name means „on Saint Nicolaus day“. It is a charity project to support children suffering from cancer. St Nicolaus (Mikuláš) with angels will bring presents for children. Jana Kocianová and The Gospel Family (40 member choir) will sing spiritual songs and Christmas carrols. Other performers: Maroš Bango & Saša Bangová. Start: Main square, 16:00. Details.
THE CHRISTMAS STREET
3.12. – 5.12.
The Christmas Street takes place in Devinska Nova Ves, one of the peripheral parts of Bratislava. Hradistna street will be full of stands with traditional Slovak Christmas dishes such as roasted pork, cabbage soup, lokse or sausages. Advent workshops are organized for children between 2 – 6 pm in a nearby Ivan Bukovcan Primary School. Details.
INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS MUSIC

This festival invites choirs from all over the world to the decorated historic center of Bratislava, so that they contribute to a peaceful pre-Christmas mood with songs, traditional culture and spontaneous presentations. A competition during which the choirs will be showing their quality of singing in front of an international jury won’t be missing. Free entry! More info.

MIKULAS ON ICE

CHRISTMAS CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Join the traditional creation of Christmas presents, Christmas ornaments and decorations in the Leisure Time Centre Gessayova in Petrzalka. Details.

SANTA CLAUS IN THE SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY
Experience the magic of Santa Claus and pre-Christmas mood at the Esterhazy Palace in our national gallery with some art. Choose your creative workshop, warm yourself up drinking nice tea and watch theater performances. The event is for all the families with children up to 3 years. You need to register yourself till 3rd December via email firstname.lastname@example.org – entry is 4 € per family.
SANTA CLAUS PARTY
Experience a devilishly angelic Saturday full of nice people, thematic costumes and have some great fun! The colors of this night will be red, white, black and green – come dressed as a Santa, angel, devil, elf or a reindeer :D If you don’t like costumes, just wear something in one of the mentioned colors – by doing so you’ll earn yourself a free welcome drink upon your arrival :) Check the details.
RETRO FLEA MARKET IN THE OLD MARKET HALL
Antiques, art objects, vintage and other retro items will be presented in the Old Market Hall at the beginning of December. From 11 am there will also be a theater for children. Facebook event.
RETRO BAZAAR IN KC DUNAJ
Clothing for ladies, gentlemen and babies, earrings, necklaces, headbands, rings, plates and other antiques will be offered at this retro bazaar from 10 am till 5 pm. Free entrance! Check the list of all the producers here.
FLEA MARKET ON BAJKALSKA STREET
„Burzoblsák,“ as this flea market is called, is an event dedicated for the community and its main aims are recycling and re-usage of old clothes. There is also an option for sellers to donate clothes for one of orphanages in Bratislava. It is held each first Saturday of the month, starting from 8 am and lasting till 2 pm on Bajkalska street 20. No entrance fee. Get your special piece directly from the sellers’ trunks or suitcases and enjoy the atmosphere of a real flea market! More info.
CEREMONIAL OPENING OF CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN PETRZALKA
Santa will come on a carriage to open Christmas markets in Petrzalka at 16.15 , followed by music performances by Kmeto band, Marian Greksa and children folklore ensemble Hajenka. These Christmas markets will be open until 20 December, with special music performances on certain days. Details.
