November will be full of artistic events: theater nights, movie, poetry & photography festivals, a book fair or shows related to Japanese, Korean and Croatian culture. FRESH MARKET

each Saturday
The food market in the Old Market Hall (Stara Trznica) is held every Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. Seasonal foods grown and produced by farmers and small producers from around Bratislava can be found here, as well as quality specialties from more distant countries. The market is regularly accompanied by various bazaars – antiques, books, clothes or vinyl – that are periodically rotated and can be found on the first floor. More info.

If you are looking for a perfect start of your weekend, here’s a great tip: each Friday evening, an aperitivo is held in Pane & Olio Bistro, a showroom with Italian food and tasting of traditional dishes mainly from the Tuscany region. SLOVAK NATIONAL COLLECTION OF WINE

It’s been already the 10th year that the national collection of wine has been organized in the Museum of Viticulture in Bratislava. Come here for a tasting of 100 quality Slovak wines – you’ll be able to choose from 43 white wines, 7 semi-dry and semi-sweet wines, 9 roses, 25 red wines, 11 naturally sweet and Tokay wines and 5 sparkling wines from 31 vintners. CREATIVE WEDNESDAYS IN THE SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY

each Wednesday
If you have kids in age of 4-7 years, this might be an event you want to attend with them! The Slovak National Gallery organizes regular art workshops each Wednesday from 5 till 6.30 pm. You will examine the original art works and discover their hidden stories. In the studio you will be able to try different art practices and encourage your child’s creativity. Entrance: 4 € per family.

TITANIC EXHIBITION

until 6.12.
Come to explore the legendary story of Titanic! This grandiose exhibition will teach you about the fate of the most famous seagoing ship and its passengers as well as about the turbulent period of technological inventions and socio-political situation at the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to the perfect reconstruction of cabins, engine room or dining room you will experience the real luxury and misery from the beginning of the 20th century. More info here.

MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY

28.10. – 30.11.
The tradition of dedicating November to photography started more than 20 years ago in Bratislava. It is actually the 25th year now and this event belongs to some of the most significant events of its kind. Why should you be interested in something like this? In short, you have a chance to see around 30 exhibitions spread around Bratislava’s galleries and museums – most of them have free entry! A VEGAN DAY

1.11.
Celebrate the international vegan day on Sunday, 1st November, in the “a4-nulty priestor”, with a special program and delicious treats. The Speciesism movie will be screened, and a lecture about the psychological aspects of meat consumption will follow. Free entry, come hungry! More info.

NU DANCE FEST 2015

4. – 8.11.
The 10th year of contemporary dance and movement theater festival will present the latest works by Slovak choreographers and directors, as well as exceptional works of authors from abroad. Dance performances, theater texts, works bordering the sound art, public discussions, workshops, parties – that’s what you can enjoy at three locations: A4, Studio 12 and Goethe’s Institute. TOGETHER ABOUT EUROPE

5.11.
Come to discuss the current issues of the European Union with representatives of Slovakia and the European Commission. What is your opinion on the EU? How to solve the key issues – jobs, investment, innovation? How Slovakia contributes to EU and how does it benefit from it? This civil dialogue will be opened by the President of Slovakia, Andrej Kiska. The event will be held at the Old Market Hall (Stara Trznica) with a start at 5 pm. THE LARGEST INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR

5. – 8.11.
The international book fair in Slovakia is a feast day for those who participate in creating book works and for those who love reading and buying them. It is a meeting point for publishers, writers, illustrators, editors, translators, printers, distributors and of course readers. You can find it in Bratislava’s Incheba and enter for 3 €. Details.

DIVERSE AFRICA

6.11.
Discover and enjoy the traditional African cuisine, history, music, literature and science – presented by African migrants living in Slovakia. After the successful presentation of East Africa, African Cultural, Information and Integration center would like to invite you to the second edition of Pestrá Afrika (Diverse Africa), this time you will be able to learn about the Southern African region (South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia and Madagascar). INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF WATCHES AND JEWELERS

6. – 8.11.
Participate in the one and only exhibition in Slovakia aimed at presentation of the precise work of watchmakers and jewelry masters. The nineteenth year of Watches and Jewels exhibition in Incheba Bratislava will show the current trends in creating jewels from precious metals as well as the increasingly popular bijouterie. SWING DANCE HALL

6.11.
Experience the atmosphere of vibrant parties of the swing era, treat yourself to delicious wine and goodies and return to the bohemian times of 20-50th of the last century. Swing in stylish cafes – that is the concept of these dance hall evenings and the November one will be held in Kafe Lampy. Solo Charleston, Lindy Hop and Boogie Woogie will be taught by lecturers during this event. Entry 3 €. Facebook event.

DAYS OF ST. MARTIN 2015

6. – 11.11.
St. Martin is one of Bratislava’s patrons and we will celebrate St. Martin’s days at the beginning of November! This event is also known as the feast of young wine and will be held at the Primate’s square (in front of the Primate’s Palace), accompanied with various fairs. The wine tasting will be preceded by the traditional blessing of wine in the Chapel of St. Ladislav in the Primate’s Palace. The spiritual aspect of the feast will be complemented by masses in the St. Martin’s Cathedral from Friday till Sunday. The popular lantern parades will not be missing this year. The first one will take place on Saturday in the historic city center, the second one is scheduled for Monday – in the area of Bratislava Castle. More info (in Slovak only).

OFF_FESTIVAL BRATISLAVA

6. – 20.11.
The OFF_Festival Bratislava is a festival of new photography which started in 2010 and is held simultaneously with the Month of Photography. It complements its program, being a platform for fresh talents of the photography scene. Each year it also gives an award to the artist whose work captures the most attention. Free entry! FLEA MARKET ON BAJKALSKA STREET

7.11.
„Burzoblsák,“ as this flea market is called, is an event dedicated for the community and its main aims are recycling and re-usage of old clothes. There is also an option for sellers to donate clothes for one of orphanages in Bratislava. It is held each first Saturday of the month, starting from 8 am and lasting till 1 pm on Bajkalska street 20. No entrance fee. Get your special piece directly from the sellers’ trunks or suitcases and enjoy the atmosphere of a real flea market! Facebook event.

MELOS – ETOS 2015

7. – 13.11.
Listen to the latest and original works from the contemporary music scene! The main focus of this international festival of contemporary music is on works of high quality, half of which are Slovak premieres. The festival also commissions Slovak composers to compose works, which are then performed at its concerts. Each festival has a featured guest – a distinguished composer from abroad – who is given a profile concert. In the framework of the festival, composers and performers hold workshops or discussions attended by students, composers, and performers. Link to the program.

PILATES IN ENGLISH

9.11.
Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. You can join this class held in English and run by a certified pilates instructor every Monday at 20:05 at Fitness Fanatix, Dunajska 23. Price for 5 sessions from 8.11 to 14.12 is 25 €. SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL

9. – 13.11.
The aim of the Science Film Festival is to present interesting scientific-popular films and TV programs, which by their portrayal of science as an attractive, dynamic and constantly evolving area, bring science closer to a wide and diverse audience. The Science Film Festival presents engaging topics from the area of natural sciences, technical sciences and liberal studies and  also reacts to the current status and recent trends at home and abroad. On the occasion of the International Year of Light, the theme of the second edition of the Science Film Festival is light. A competition of amateur filmmakers on the topic “A journey around light – light around us” is also part of the Festival and participants are welcomed to contribute with their works created according to the theme. FESTIVAL OF FREEDOM

9. – 15.11.
The Festival of freedom is a multi-genre festival reminding and analyzing the period of oppression in Slovakia. It will have many intersteing films, exhibitions, discussions, theater performances or valuations of personalities who participated in the fight with the totalitarianism. Check the program here.

MEDITATION IN ENGLISH

10.11.
Meditation is the practice of turning your attention to a single point of reference. The goal of meditation is to focus and quiet your mind, eventually reaching a higher level of awareness and inner. The goal is to enjoy relaxing and de-stressing our bodies with nice music, surrounded by great people in a peaceful place. BRATISLAVA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

12. – 17.11.
Bratislava International Film Festival was established in 1999. Every year it creates a meeting platform for the general public, cinematographic and film professionals from Slovakia as well as abroad. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the most interesting European films of this year. More details.

FOTO SLOVAKIA 2015

13.11.
The fifth edition of the largest photographic event in Slovakia is going to be held on 13th November in the Old Market Hall (Stará Tržnica). FOTO SLOVAKIA 2015 is a unique event for every photographer and fans of photos. It offers space for brands and retailers to present photo printing, photographic equipment and accessories, lights, computer equipment, mobile phones etc. The rich accompanying program includes presentations by well known photographers with discussions, a photo shoot in an open studio, thematic workshops and seminars, and a space for the exhibition of photographs by artists from all over Slovakia. POKER WITH FRIENDS

Have you wanted to learn how to play poker and not had time to do so? Do you want to have a great evening playing for fun in a friendly private poker tournament? Join this event then – a private poker table will be booked for the signed up attendees and everyone will start with the same amount of chips. An evening dedicated to Croatian culture under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Bratislava. The event will be held in the House of Culture in Dubravka, starting at 7 pm. Free entrance. Official website.

NIPPONFEST – JAPANESE FESTIVAL

13. – 15.11.
A Japanese Cultural Festival for all the fans of Japanese culture and pop culture. Its mission is to contribute to raising awareness of Japan as a country, but also to understand its culture and traditions. Not only traditional lectures on a wide range of topics, but also the possibility of trying out board games, or the possibility of engaging in Japanese tuned competitions should bring the visitors closer to this country and its beauty. Comics, pop music, television series, karaoke, a tea room, an anime quiz, screening of selected titles from Japanese animation and film production and a lot more is prepared for you. More details.

HANGUKON – KOREAN FESTIVAL

13. – 15.11.
A Korean Cultural Festival – with a very similar program to the above mentioned Japanese festival, both will be held at the same House of Culture in Zrkadlovy haj, Bratislava. Facebook event.

14.11.
Come to purchase clothes and other treasures from the “attic” and rare antiques. If you have similar items at home and you like the idea of selling them on a flea market, sign up as a seller for just 10 €! PRESSBURG SWING NIGHT

14.11.
A secret pearl of night clubs is now opening to live hot jazz and swing music! You can find yourself to be in a wonderful atmosphere from 20s till 40s with live music of swing orchestra Fats Jazz Band, lectures of swing dance from dancing school B-Swing and at the end the stylish DJ Gramophone Brothers will play shellacs! This evening is suitable for both type of audience – the listeners enjoying good bottle of wine while listening to live music/and the party style type of people who can’t sit too long on a chair. ARS POETICA FESTIVAL

17. – 21.11.
Ars Poetica 2015 is a celebration of top quality world poetry in Slovakia. Introducing 21 prominent poets from a number of countries along with unique VJ-ing, recitals of original translations, gigs and movie screenings. One of the highlights of the 13th annual festival is ‘Horizon China‘ introducing four independent contemporary Chinese poets in Bratislava. Chinese theme is underpinned by a unique multimedia dancing performance. Visitors of Café Berlinka also have an exclusive chance to meet some of the leading members of Versopolis platform, which is one of its kind in Europe as well as a variety of experimental films. 100 YEARS OF THE AUSTRIAN TRAM

18. – 30.11.
After more than two years of reconstruction the public will be able to see the legendary Viennese tram GANZ Eg 6. The exhibition will be held in the Museum of Transport.

The regular event of InterNations, a community gathering expats living in Bratislava as well as locals. CHRISTMAS MARKETS

20.11. – 23.12.
One of the most beautiful periods of the year in Bratislava is definitely during the last weeks of the year, when people celebrate the scents of Christmas on the street markets. DAY OF OPEN CELLARS

20. – 21.11.
This event supports the tradition of drinking young wine rich in flavonoids that act as antioxidants. Mainly, however, it supports the viticulture and allows people to have a look into the cellars of wine producers. It allows wine lovers to taste wines from all over the Small Carpathian region directly at the places where it is produced, chat with wine producers and learn about their secrets. SAX AND WINE IN THE CITY

20. – 21.11.
Join the (not only) Jazz Festival in the most historic wine cellar of the Small Carpathian region which is located in the German cultural center in Raca, Bratislava. Prominent Slovak jazz musicians but also Latino performances and shows using saxophone will be held to enjoy! The music show will start on Friday and Saturday from 5 pm only for a symbolic fee. NIGHT OF THEATERS

21.11.
Enjoy a night of open theaters, cultural centers, performances and extraordinary experience. This European event presents theater in a creative way and in an unusual time span. This year the project involves 51 theaters from 16 Slovak cities, including Bratislava. In all the participating theaters there will be a shared applause done at 7 pm. For all the theater lovers, big and small, there is comedy, drama, ballet, contemporary dance, musicals, cabaret, classical productions, fairy tales or puppet theater prepared. In addition to theater performances, premieres and several hosting productions, visitors will be able to participate in workshops, workshops, visit exhibitions, theaters to win a quiz, get lost in the labyrinth of the night or listen to concerts. GONG BATH IN ENGLISH

24.11.
The Gong is one of the oldest ancient instruments and is named after the sound it creates. A gong bath is a form of sound therapy where you are bathed in sound waves, there is no water involved. The Slovak jazz scene will experiences a series of extremely valuable top performances of domestic and foreign music stars. This one day festival will last two days J And will be held in Bratislava’s Istropolis. Check the program here.

FESTIVAL OF ADVANCED MUSIC: NEXT

25. – 29.11.
Radical melodies, spontaneous improvisation sounds, original music techniques and concepts, innovative acoustic instruments and electronics, as well as multimedia projects. This festival presents a supports the current artists from around the world, a lively and inspirational playing contemporary music without genre limitations. A VEGAN DINNER

29.11.
The idea of these regular vegan dinners is that each participants brings their own vegan food, plates and cutlery and shares their meal on the big table with other attendees. No entrance fee is required, all you need to do is bring your food, share it with others and taste from the meals other will bring to the table. No matter whether you self-prepare or buy the meal, whether it is cooked or raw.
