OCTOBER EVENTS IN BRATISLAVA

Many bazaars and flea markets are planned for October in Bratislava, as well as the most different festivals – about chocolate, coffee or tea, wines, music, cosmetics, movies, art, fashion, sport or history. Interesting exhibitions, creative workshops, events aimed for networking, fine dining or getting to know our capital, but you can also join an international quiz, a kite flying show, get rainbowed during a charitable run or become an angel for disabled people! FRESH MARKET

each Saturday
The food market in the Old Market Hall (Stara Trznica) is held every Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. Seasonal foods grown and produced by farmers and small producers from around Bratislava can be found here, as well as quality specialties from more distant countries. The market is regularly accompanied by various bazaars – antiques, books, clothes or vinyl – that are periodically rotated and can be found on the first floor. More info.

If you are looking for a perfect start of your weekend, here’s a great tip: each Friday evening, an aperitivo is held in Pane & Olio Bistro, a showroom with Italian food and tasting of traditional dishes mainly from the Tuscany region. SLOVAK NATIONAL COLLECTION OF WINE

It’s been already the 10th year that the national collection of wine has been organized in the Museum of Viticulture in Bratislava. Come here for a tasting of 100 quality Slovak wines – you’ll be able to choose from 43 white wines, 7 semi-dry and semi-sweet wines, 9 roses, 25 red wines, 11 naturally sweet and Tokay wines and 5 sparkling wines from 31 vintners. TITANIC EXHIBITION

Come to explore the legendary story of Titanic! This grandiose exhibition will teach you about the fate of the most famous seagoing ship and its passengers as well as about the turbulent period of technological inventions and socio-political situation at the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to the perfect reconstruction of cabins, engine room or dining room you will experience the real luxury and misery from the beginning of the 20th century. More info here.

CREATIVE WEDNESDAYS IN THE SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY

each Wednesday
If you have kids in age of 4-7 years, this might be an event you want to attend with them! The Slovak National Gallery organizes regular art workshops each Wednesday from 5 till 6.30 pm. You will examine the original art works and discover their hidden stories. In the studio you will be able to try different art practices and encourage your child’s creativity. Entrance: 4 € per family.

ZUMBA IN ENGLISH

every Tuesday
You are welcome to join Zumba in English classes every Tuesday from 19:15-20:15 in Centrum Radosť – a lovely place where it it possible to park for free. There are three types of tickets that you can buy: a permanent card for three months from 22.9 to 15.12 – 12 times – 35 € (2.9 € per lesson); 4 times (one month) – 18 € (4.5 € per a lesson) & 1 time charge – 6 €. THE BRATISLAVA MUSIC FESTIVAL

25.9. – 11.10.
This international music festival that presents a large scale of classical music literature is organized by the Slovak Filharmony and brings impressive artists to our capital city. The purpose of the festival is to invite renewed foreign orchestras, soloists and conductors following up the rich tradition of Bratislava. Check the whole program here.

INTERNATIONAL FAIR OF COSMETICS: INTERBEAUTY

1. – 3.10.
For more than 20 years the Interbeauty fair has been displaying the portfolio of products and services related to the physical enhancement that are available on the Slovak market. It’s been a meeting point of top professionals who demonstrate their skills at exhibition performances and contests. FARM FEST

2. – 4. 10.
This event aims to bring visibility of the traditional handicraft, culinary and product specifics of the Bratislava region and its surroundings. You’ll find here a properly mixed combination of the things which make the Slovak regions unique and unforgettable –producers from the Bratislava region will be present, giving you a chance to taste and purchase their products, and a cultural program will not be missing either. The Farm Fest will be held in Stupava, a small city in the Bratislava region. More info.

BRATISLAVA YOGA DAYS

2. – 4. 10.
Come to the very first festival of yoga in Bratislava that will be held in the Pisztory palace. Get to know yourself in a new world during the three days full of yoga, music and pleasant meetings. WAVES FESTIVAL

2. – 4. 10.
For the third time, Bratislava will be the host of showcase festival Waves Bratislava. The event takes place as an equal part of Waves Central Europe Festival 2015 which spreads itself over two neighboring capitals, Vienna and Bratislava. This time there will be a higher number of artists and festival days, new attractive venues, pop-up concerts, as well as the opening party was added to the program. You can expect multi-club nights with sounds of indie-pop/rock, electronica, rock’n’roll, pop, folk, ska, jazz and world music resonating across the capital of Slovakia. The international future stars will find their new temporary home, joined by the host of most interesting and forward thinking musicians of the Slovak scene. FLEA MARKET ON BAJKALSKA STREET

3.10.
„Burzoblsák,“ as this flea market is called, is an event dedicated for the community and its main aims are recyclation and re-usage of old clothes. There is also an option for sellers to donate clothes for one of orphanages in Bratislava. It is held each first Saturday of the month, starting from 8 am and lasting till 1 pm on Bajkalska street 20. No entrance fee. Get your special piece directly from the sellers’ trunks or suitcases and enjoy the atmosphere of a real flea market! Official Facebook event.

AUTUMN FLEA MARKET IN HORSKY PARK

3.10.
This flea market is organized by a community center Horaren („a gamekeeper’s house“). You will find here a mix of hand-made widgets and quality secondhand items and there’s a program for kids prepared, too, such as a natural hobby room or pony riding or special theaters. BATTLE OF VIENNA

3.10.
A commemoration of one of the greatest battles in the history of Central Europe. There’s a program prepared from 11 am starting with a Holy Mass. At noon you can watch the parade of the participants in the streets of Old Town, starting from Frantiskanske namestie via Hlavne námestie (Main Square), Sedlarska ulica, Venturska ulica, Panska ulica and Rudnayovo namestie. At 12:15 there’ll be a speech by the organizers and from 1 pm till 2 pm you can enjoy a presentation of the military history groups from Poland, Hungary and Slovakia at the Hviezdoslavovo square. The main event will start at 4 pm in the Garden of Janko Kral: presentations of the fighting skills of the Polish „winged“ Husars, the reconstruction of the fights from the period of Battle of Vienna in 1683 at 17:00, including infantry, cavalry, Ottoman army and the Holy League, cannon salutes, historical camp with tea room and Ottoman cafe, bowmen, market with bratislava rolls (traditional food) and historical items. BRATISLAVA IN MOTION

4.10.
This is a regular cultural event of international importance organized by the TAO Dance Theater that offers visitors the works of top artists from the area of contemporary dance art from around the world. For the first time it will host a group from China. The dancers will explore the potential of the human body as a visual element. The group has performed in over 40 countries and 5 continents. WORKSHOP FOR NEWCOMERS: WELCOME TO SLOVAKIA

Are you a newcomer in Slovakia? Are you here for less than 6 months? Then you must know how difficult and time consuming it is to find all the information on one place sometimes. BRAZILIAN FILM FESTIVAL

5. – 13.10.
The Portuguese Institute brings you the 3rd Annual Brazilian Film Festival called Visual Brazil. The festival was established to show the contemporary Brazilian cinematography, culture, cultural studies, socio-political and daily life of Brazilians. Expect an amazing street art workshop, a street art party and of course various movies! Check the whole program here.

LAUGHTER YOGA

Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise where everyone  can laugh for no reason, without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. It combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain which makes one feel more energetic and healthy. The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter if done with willingness. BE2CAN FILM FESTIVAL

7. – 14.10.
Join the second edition of this film festival to watch lucrative movies from festivals in Berlin, Venice and Cannes! The opening ceremony will in Bratislava will be in the Kino Film Europe cinema, and in total the movie premieres will be accessible in 44 cinemas in Slovakia and Czech republic. In Bratislava you’ll be able to watch movies in 3 cinemas: Kino Film Europe, Mladost and Urban Space Cafe.

BRATISLAVA ART FESTIVAL – BLAF

8. – 11.10.
BLAF is a festival of visual art where visitors can experience, understand, perceive and talk about art. The topic of this year’s festival is „symbolic capital” – a technical term associated with the name of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. What is a reputation based economy, how should an artist refine their symbolic capital, why it is important today? INTERNATIONAL QUIZ NIGHT

A calling for all the knowledge craving quizzers – clear your schedule, it is QUIZ time! If 2 heads are better than 1, then 4 will be remarkable. Teams of 4 will be competing in a quiz at this event. You will be able to enjoy cosy and friendly atmosphere of the Kuca Paca Wine Bar. All questions will be in English and designed for international audience. Welcome drink and snacks are included. Winners will be rewarded! Come and test your brain cells while meeting new people and enjoying couple of drinks. Entrance fee is 5 €. WORLD OF THE DRUMS

9. – 10.10.
Concerts, workshops and dancing shows will rebound the House of Culture Ružinov, which will traditionally be turned to a music fair full of world music, percussion and events for the whole family. There will also be a complementary program with drumming, a drum circle with improvised dance workshops and exotic dishes. Entrance: 11 € on Friday, 31 € on Saturday. More info.

APPLE FEAST

10.10.
Get to know everything about apples and apple products at the Apple Feast that will be held in 14 various cities and villages of the Bratislava region on the same day! The Bratislava inhabitants and visitors can join it in Devinska Nova Ves – at the courtyard of the local library on Istrijska street 6. The event will start at 11 am and last till about 3 pm. Cultural program, competitions as well as activities for children will not be missing.

COFFEE TEA CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

9. – 11.10.
Our five-star hotel Crown Plaza hosts this year’s festival where the main roles are played by coffee, tea, chocolate and all things related to them. If you like to treat yourself with dainties, you should definitely not miss this event. Meet the producers and distributors who present their favorite products. KITES FLYING

10.10.
Flying kites has somehow went out, it seems it’s not so cool anymore these days. The opposite will be true on 10th October the old airport in Vajnory. As each year, once again the airport will host many people who will come with their kites to commonly fly them and have some fun time. There will also be workshops for kids where they’ll have a chance to create a kite and put their creations to a special mini gallery. A contest for the most beautiful kite will be held as well, in two categories – the first category will award the best kite created at home, the second category will mark kites created on the spot. The event starts at 1 pm.

FLEA MARKET ON OBCHODNA STREET

10.10.
Come to purchase clothes and other treasures from the “attic” and rare antiques. If you have similar items at home and you like the idea of selling them on a flea market, sign up as a seller for just 10 €! GET RAINBOWED – FARBAM NEUJDES

Enjoy the most colorful day of your life! Get Rainbowed is a fun charitable 5 km run full of colors. Get on the track and be right in the middle of the color explosion – at each kilometer there is a color zone where the runners will be showered by powdered Hedon colors. The race is neither timed nor age limited. Fun is an important part of the race. Children, adults, youth, elders, solo runners, groups or families. WHITE NIGHT BRATISLAVA

The White Night is a prestigious international art project with an objective to introduce to the general public new forms of contemporary art as well as unique, unfamiliar and outstanding nooks of the world cities. It is the biggest and most visited international festival of contemporary art in Slovakia. On 10th October, Bratislava will become an interactive space for one night – music and light installations of contemporary art will breathe life into the city night and therefore the night will become “white.” Free entrance! GONG BATH GUIDED IN ENGLISH

The Gong is one of the oldest ancient instruments and is named after the sound it creates. A gong bath is a form of sound therapy where you are bathed in sound waves, there is no water involved. PRE-HALLOWEEN CREATIVE WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN

Make your leaving space more cosy during this autumn season and ready for the Halloween. During 1,5 hours you will create pumpkins from different types of fabrics. For decoration you’ll be able to use tulle, ribbons, lace, beads, artificial flowers, berries and leaves. All you need for this creative workshop is your time, your wish and possibility to hold needle and thread. All materials and instruments will provided but if you want to use some specific decorations or fabrics, feel free to bring them with you. Beside creating pumpkins you can also get Henna paint for free. FASHION LIVE TALK

21. – 25.10.
This is the biggest celebration of fashion in Slovakia. Come to watch the best of the Slovak and foreign fashion to the numerous catwalks, workshops and showrooms. One day ticket costs 7 €, a 3-day ticket 15 €. The whole program is available here.

STREETFOOD PARK VOL.2

21. – 24.10.
Calling all street food lovers! You are invited to a new event on the square in front of our Old Market Hall – Stara trznica. The Street Food Park takes place every day from the 21 st till the 24th October and there will be 10 food stands and food trucks on the square. On Saturday (October 24) you will find even more tasty stands right inside the market hall at the Pyré Soirée evening. Free entrance! More info.

23. – 25.10. & 27.10.
The 41st year of the Bratislava Jazz Days will take place at the Incheba hall as well as the Old Market Hall (Stara Trznica). This international jazz festival will host many big names that will perform thrilling shows for its visitors. For ticket prices click here or visit the official website.
