FRESH MARKET

each Saturday
The food market in the Old Market Hall (Stara Trznica) is held every Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. Seasonal foods grown and produced by farmers and small producers from around Bratislava can be found here, as well as quality specialties from more distant countries. The market is regularly accompanied by various bazaars – antiques, books, clothes or vinyl – that are periodically rotated and can be found on the first floor. More info.

ITALIAN APERITIVO

If you are looking for a perfect start of your weekend, here’s a great tip: each Friday evening, an aperitivo is held in Pane & Olio Bistro, a showroom with Italian food and tasting of traditional dishes mainly from the Tuscany region. Delicious food, yummy drinks and Italian wine are surely a great option, whether you want to get yourself in a party mood or just want to have a great dinner time :) More info.

Every Thursday from 5 pm and every Sunday from 4 pm there are different workshops for children organized in Eurovea – in the Cinema City building, next to the McDonalds. More info.

EXHIBITION ABOUT TITANIC

12.8. – 6.12.
Come to explore the legendary story of the Titanic! Starting on 12th August 2015 in Incheba, the grandiose exhibition will teach you about the fate of the most famous seagoing ship and its passengers as well as about the turbulent period of technological inventions and socio-political situation at the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to perfect reconstruction of cabins, engine room or dining room you will experience the real luxury and misery from the beginning of the 20th century. More info here.

DAY OF WISHES

From 7 pm, there will be a tango show at the Hlavne namestie (Main square), as part of the Bratislava Cultural Summer.

ROZBAL TO, BRATISLAVA!

03. – 04. 09.
A multi-genre festival by young people, for young people. The idea of the festival is to give space to young, active people to present their work in a public place and thereby create a quality cultural event in Bratislava. The program consists of starting musicians, photographers, painters, unusual sports demonstrations, film screenings, discussions but also workshops for visitors. BIKES IN TOWN 2015

05.09.
Exhibition of motorcycles, a river surfing session, a skate mini ramp session, an exhibition of photographs and live music concerts are program that you can enjoy at Divoka Voda, Cunovo, during the first September Saturday. The event starts at noon. Check the details of the program here.

CRAFTSMEN DAYS

05. – 06. 09.
This festival of traditional crafts and folk art production has been organized on a regular basis in Bratislava since 1990. More than 100 craftsmen from all over Slovakia present the face of today’s traditional crafts. They are accompanied by folk ensembles, folk bands and instrumentalists. Visitors can also experience schools of crafts, dance schools, competitions, exhibitions and more surprises. This event is organized by ULUV and will be held on the Old Town’s pedestrian zone. VEGAN FESTIVAL

05.09.
Dozens of stalls with vegan delicacies from restaurants coming from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, vegan food producers, NGOs and culinary talents – this is what you can find and taste at the Vegan Fest! And not just food is being prepared for the visitors, there’s a rich program to entertain you through the day. The whole program can be found here: Veganske hody (in Slovak).

GONG BATH GUIDED IN ENGLISH

06.09.
The Gong is one of the oldest ancient instruments and is named after the sound it creates. A gong bath is a form of sound therapy where you are bathed in sound waves, there is no water involved. All you have to do is lie comfortably, close your eyes and let the vibrations of sound help your body to experience deep relaxation and meditation. More info.

MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS SHOW AT THE DEVIN CASTLE

6.9.
For the last time this year, there will be an all day event held at the Devin castle that will take you back to the Middle Ages – the times of knights, ladies and troubadours. A great show for (not only) kids will include children’s medieval games, swordplay performances, historical dance or dueling knights on horseback! The opening ceremony will kick off at 11am. WINE TASTING AT VINOPOLITAN

Boring mid of the week? Join this special wine tasting experience in Vinopolitan Wine shop & Bistro on Wednesday, September 9th! The tasting will be focused on southern French wines from Côtes Catalanes and Côtes du Roussillon regions. The ticket (15 €) also includes a mixed antipasti platter, a French delicacies platter, 10% discount of the entire range of products in the store during the event. Enjoy the last hot summer days while waiting for the refreshing autumn with beautiful music. The 16th festival Konvergencie (Convergence) will bring an amazing project to Bratislava – nine evenings full of chamber music. Tickets range from 4 – 30 €. Official website.

At the annually held feast in Raca (one of Bratislava’s districts) you will have a chance to taste some traditional meals, wines and other specialties, purchase souvenirs and gifts and enjoy a rich program that will include pressing of grapes, various music concerts, a vernisage of art works; an exhibition of fruit, vegetables and flowers; a karate competition for kids, a football tournament, a bicycle race and a lot more – click here for the whole program.

FLEA MARKET ON OBCHODNA STREET

Come to purchase clothes and other treasures from the “attic” and rare antiques. If you have similar items at home and you like the idea of selling them on a flea market, sign up as a seller for just 10 €! OPEN DOOR DAYS IN THE SLOVAK NATIONAL THEATER

Our national theater opens its door once a year and offers an unforgettable day full of fun, eye-catching and attractive program of accompanying events. You can look forward to autographs of your favorite actors, dancers and singers; a tour through the new theater’s premises and a tour of the costumes, a premiere performance for kids for just 1 €, art workshops and other workshops for children. The Antic Gerulata Museum is organizing a special event where you will be able to watch gladiatorial fights, martial art, examples from the life of a Roman military camp and Roman games. The event starts at 10 am and will last till 6 pm. Check the main poster with details here.

With this event, Bratislava will be for the first time part of the European week of sport. You can try out more than 25 different sports in Sad Janka Krala (the part behind the Aupark shopping mall). FESTIVAL OF FUN AND HEALTH FOR KIDS

Look forward to a special program – a magician, modeling balloons, dance performances, performances of karate, mascots, a raffle with great prizes, healthy snacks and various competitions prepared by the Kids Academy. YOGA IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

each Thursday from 17.09.
You are welcome to join a Yoga sessions every Thursday from 8 pm. This is a beginner class and you do not need any pre-knowledge. You will exercise HATHA yoga. There are three types of tickets that you can buy: a permanent card for three months from 17.9 to 17.12 – 13 times – 44 € (3.4 € per a lesson); 4 times (one month) – 18 € (4.5 € per a lesson) and 1 time charge – 6 €. The seventh year of the traditional Avon Walk against breast cancer which brings positive energy and support to projects aimed at the prevention and treatment of this disease. The registration of the march starts at 12 am in Eurovea and the march itself will be kicked off at 2 pm with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The route will be led through Bratislava’s historic center. The largest festival of raw food is going to take place on the roof of Central shopping center during the second weekend of September and you can join free of charge! For more info check their official Facebook event where the organizers promise to post details.

RIVER SHOW 2015

20.9.
Smaller and larger boats will be parked on the bank of the Danube (Eurovea promenade) and will bring the biggest river of Europe alive for 24 hours! Starting at noon, you can enjoy an exhibition of motor boats; scooters, fly board, jet surf and wakeboard water shows, lectures, activities for kids, a fashion show, a funky music concert or even visit the museum of the 250-year-old cognac Hennessy! EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

Again, there is a big celebration of languages! The French Institute has prepared different activities that will be held at the Hviezdoslav’s square, Mladost cinema and the institute’s stall. MARKETS AT THE PRIMATES SQUARE

25. – 26.09.
These annually held markets highlight the need for inclusion of people with disabilities into the mainstream of community life – as their aim is to present products produced by people handicapped in some way. During two days there will be over 50 companies that employ people with disabilities that will offer their products for sale –  for example textile products such as bags, tablecloths, toys, pillows, kitchen aprons, handbags, ceramics, paper products; decorative items, jewelry, paintings, wood, candles, wafers, soaps, decorative wreaths, wire products, items from glass. Cultural and musical performances as well as workshops with the possibility to try out the presented creative activities will be given to the visitors, too.

FEAST IN DUBRAVKA

25. – 27. 09.
The annually held feast in Dubravka (one of Bratislava’s districts) will be kicked off on Friday at 3 pm in front of the Dom Kultury („house of culture“). You can join the competition in cooking stew, watch various dancing, singing and puppet theater shows or a majorettes march. A Farm Fest will be part of this event, at which you can buy or sample the local products from farmers and producers of the Bratislava region. More info.

PRESSBURG DANCE FEST 2015

25. – 27. 09.
Bratislava is hosting another year of international festival of oriental dance! This unique event will take place in Dom kultúry Lúky, Petržalka. The main guests of the festival organized by civil association Hafla are internationally recognized oriental dancers (both male and female). Learn, compete and watch the show of performing artists from different countries, fashion shows with various designers and join seminars and worskshops! Program:

BEER RUN

26.09.
Do you like beer? Then don’t miss the chance to have some great time drinking this beverage with your friends, competing against other teams! Already over 40 teams have signed up! The rules are simple – each time consists of 2 people and is a separate “fighting unit.” The aim of the competition is to visit the most of the 7 given pubs – in the shortest time. The order of the pubs is up to you, the only given places are the starting and the finishing pubs. In every pub, every team member is obliged to consume 0,5 liter of beer (in case one of the team members is female, it is 0,3 liter). In case the team consists of 2 females, one needs to drink 0,5 liter and the other one 0,3 liter. In the starting and finishing pubs, everybody needs to drink 0,5 liter. You can either walk or use the public transport to get to the given pubs (no bikes, taxi or motorbike is allowed). The marathon starts at 2pm (the contestants need to be there by 1 pm – to receive the numbers etc) and ends at 5 pm. Five minutes after the last drank beer everyone can throw up if needed :D More info (in Slovak only).

TASTE THE WORLD

26. – 27.09.
This event aims to show its visitors the exotic restaurants operated in Slovakia and the countries of their origin. Selected embassies, consulates, tourist associations and institutes will present their countries as tourist destinations. You will also be able to purchase tasty delicacies from all over the world. A travel photo exhibition will not be missing either. On Saturday from 8 am till 3 pm there is no entrance fee, from 3 pm as well as on Sunday there is 2 € fee (children up to 12 years don’t pay). The event will be held in the Old Market Hall and finishes at 10 pm on Saturday and at 7 pm on Sunday. More info.

MEDITATION IN ENGLISH

29.09.
Have you ever tried meditation? This meditative class is a mix of breathing, stretching and relaxing technic from the Yishu Wuhang Hindu-Chinese Martial art/Tantric school. The goal is to enjoy relaxation and de-stressing of your body with nice music, surrounded by great people in a peacefull place. More info.
